About this work
Sheets of rain fall in loose vertical strokes over a sun-baked courtyard, the ochre of the walls bleeding into the wet grey of the sky.
The composition is held by a single doorway of deep red, a still point in a painting that is otherwise all movement.
Inspiration
The work appears to come from the first evening of the monsoon, when the smell of rain on hot stone fills every room of a house. One reads the red door as both shelter and invitation.
