We show a small number of artists properly: museum-grade photography, writing that does the work justice, tools collectors actually use, and a settlement you can set your watch by.
What every work gets
Up to 4000 px photography, hover magnifier, full-screen zoom, and "Look closer" markers that take a collector straight to your best passages.
We draft the description and the story behind the work with you, so a collector reads what you would say if you were standing beside them.
Collectors preview your painting on a photo of their own room at its real dimensions, with or without a frame, then send us the mockup. It removes the single biggest reason people hesitate.
Each work's palette is read automatically, so a collector looking for "something with teal and ochre" finds you.
Every original ships with a certificate carrying a QR code that resolves to its record here. Good for you, your collector, and any future resale.
No cart. Every buyer talks to us, and we talk to you before anything is confirmed. You always know who is buying.
How consignment works
- You apply with three to five works and a line about your practice. We reply within a week.
- We agree the works and prices together. You tell us your net price; we set the retail price with your consent and never discount below the band we agree.
- The painting stays with you until it sells. We photograph it (or guide you to), write it up, and list it. Online exclusivity for listed works only; your studio sales stay yours.
- When it sells, we confirm with you, the buyer pays us, you ship within the agreed window with the certificate, and we settle your share by bank transfer within 15 days of payment clearing, with a statement.
- Every month you get a statement of views, enquiries and sales. Withdraw any work with 30 days' notice.
Terms in plain words
- Commission: 30% of the retail price. No listing fee, no photography fee, nothing upfront.
- Settlement: within 15 days of the buyer's payment clearing.
- Term: six months, renewing, 30 days' notice either way.
- Ownership and risk: the work remains yours until sold; transit is insured.
- Returns: 7-day return window for buyers; the work comes back to you, we refund the buyer.
- Rights: you grant us permission to photograph and show the work online for promotion. Copyright stays with you.
- Paperwork: a two-page agreement with a schedule of works. You keep a copy.
Qartoos sold the work of about 70 artisans between 2013 and 2017 as a zero-commission marketplace. This is the same idea, grown up: fewer artists, shown properly.
Apply
Send three to five works you would want to show first. Phone photos are fine at this stage. We look at everything personally and reply within a week.
