About this work
Two hands at a loom, drawn in a few strokes of oil over a warm ochre ground, the thread picked out in a single line of white. The face is left out; the hands are the portrait.
The linen support shows through at the edges and is part of the picture.
Inspiration
Painted after an afternoon watching a weaver work: the hands never stopped, and the painter wanted the picture to have that same patience.
