About this work
A dense field of marigolds painted in thick impasto, their orange heads catching an early light that is rendered in near-white strokes. The paint stands off the canvas in places, so the surface changes as you move.
It is a painting about one colour, orange, and how many colours it takes to make it.
Inspiration
Marigolds are the flower of every threshold in India: strung over doors, heaped at temple steps, floating in a bowl of water. The work holds that abundance still for a moment.

Every work is packed by the studio in a custom crate or roll and shipped insured. Within India delivery takes 7 to 10 working days and is included in the price. International shipping is quoted on request, with duties payable by the buyer.

About the artist
Shilpi is a painter based in New Delhi. She works mainly in watercolour and gouache on paper, and in acrylic on canvas, and her subjects come from the India she grew up looking at: musicians and dancers, women at their daily work, horses, the gods of the household shrine, and the colours of festival and monsoon.
